Yes I am still running of the trail at 5am. I have a hand-held bottle of pepper spray that I carry in my right hand...with my thumb directly on the trigger, ready to spray anyone within 10ft of me. I still find myself checking over my shoulder often, probably b/c I'm totally paranoid and have seen way too many Lifetime movies. It's just that I've never lived anywhere where the crime rate is as high as it is here, so I'm not used to being afraid. Not to freak anyone out, but here are just 2 examples: About a month ago a 40yr old woman's body was pulled out of the river....yes, right where I run. Last week and man walked out to take his dog to pee and noticed a leg sticking out from under a garage door. He called the cops and a woman's body was found dead. (NO, that was not by me, it was on the NW side of town...I'm about central.) I've heard about this kind of stuff in big cities, but never where I'm living...and I don't like it. I can't wait until we're out of here.
I've been presented with an opportunity to try for a really good job. I don't want to give out any details yet, but I'd work from home and would make almost DOUBLE what I'm making now. I'm not so sure about my qualifications, but the woman currently in the job is very confident that I would be great at it. She's responsible for finding and training her replacement, and she wants me to try for it. At first I said no, b/c it involves giving large presentations throughout the year, but after talking with her more, I'm going to apply. I think it's an opportunity I shouldn't pass up, and I figure the only thing bad that could come out of it is I don't get the job, and I've lost nothing. So why not. Now I need to update my resume and prepare to be interviewed. Have I mentioned I HATE interviews? UGH.

So I guess listening to your music is out of the question when you run? You will need to be able to hear anything that might approach you. I would be scared to death. I am a chicken like that.
Good luck on the job thing whatever you decide. I hate interviews too. It is like getting up in class and having to give a speech. No, thank you.
what always helped me before I interviewed was to think about three things -
a) the person interviewing you has a problem - they need AND WANT to fill the job. So they WANT to like you.
b) reread your resume to remind yourself how great you are and what you've accomplished
c) remember you don't have to be perfect in the interview - that takes off a lot of pressure.
and finally, I am weird about this, but I ALWAYS stay standing while I am waiting for the person to come out and get me - I feel like standing when they come in makes an impression that you are serious and that when you meet that person you are on equal footing.
Glad you got the pepper spray and good luck with the job interview. Carol's tips are excellent. I've interviewed a LOT of people and I'm here to tell you - she is really dead on with the first one. You wouldn't believe how many losers we have to interview before we get to the winners like you!
WOW, I want a job like that.
Yeah, runningo n the trails at that time of day, or any time of day alone scares me. I see these women doing it and they have headphones on where someone doesn't even have to sneak up on them. Drives me nuts. Be careful.
Hi Melissa!!! just stopping by... hope things are going well for you.
Sounds like a really promising job opportunity! Good luck! Let us know how your interview went!
